  • Pale golden yellow color. Extremely sweet and unctuous nose with bold aromas of acacia honey, mushroomy and toasty - even slightly pastry-like - aromas of botrytis, dried pineapple, some overripe apricot and a little bit of cloudberry jam. Very impressive, albeit a little bit over-the-top, maybe. The wine is very full-bodied, concentrated and even quite fat on the palate with very rich and remarkably intense flavors of powerful honeyed character, toasty brioche, spicy-mushroomy botrytis notes, a little bit of peach marmalade, a hint of cloudberry jam and a touch of vanilla curd. The wine shows lots of weight and power, but consequently the acidity feels rather modest, making the wine come across as rather ponderous and very sticky. The finish is very sweet, powerful and unctuous with intense and persistent flavors of honey, pineapple jam, fruit salad syrup, some toasty brioche and vanilla custard pastry notes, a little bit of dried apricots and a hint of cloudberry jam.

This is a massively big, super-rich and unctuous Sauternes with incredible concentration, but relatively little structure and freshness to carry it all. There's nothing subtle or elegant here - the wine is like a lumbering elephant that's just oozing honey. Definitely a delicious drop on its own and a wonderful way to end a dinner on a sweet note, but definitely a wine harder to match with a dessert - unless it's a stinky, creamy, soft-ripened cheese. Might lose some of its baby fat with age, but this really doesn't feel like a wine made to cellar for ages.
