  • From half bottle.
    Cork in relatively good shape.
Slightly cloudy, but this did in no way affect the aromatics.
Intense, well-defined aromatics both fruity and savory with a spicy finish.
    Great acidity providing excellent balance.
Yes, an aged character but it doesn't detract in any way. On the contrary, the complexity is amazing as is the length.

  • Appearance: Bright and clear, it has deep amber color, with fading rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity of green fruit such as ripe pear, sugarcane, oxidation notes of caramel and toffee, maturity notes of cereal and honey, dried fruit of fig and date. The wine is fully developed.
Palate: Medium sweet with medium (+) acidity, the wine has medium alcohol, exhibiting full body and pronounced intensity flavors of green fruit of pear, ripe apple and sugarcane, dried fruit of fig and date, maturity notes of cereal and honey, kernel notes of hazelnut, oxidation notes of caramel and toffee. The wine has a long finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality SW France sweet wine, showing a complex nose of good concentration, but comparatively this wine has even a more amazing palate, which is highly complex and intense, balancing the sweetness well with acidity and also showing a long finish. A very interesting wine that is not of the main stream, nevertheless it brings a glimpse of some wonders of how Petit Manseng can develop. Ready to drink now, the wine can maintain for another 5-7 years.

  • Light gold/amber color. This has the most extraordinary perfume of white truffles! Just a touch of oxidation. In the mouth, full, fresher than the oxidative note would suggest, not that sweet (much less sugar than the Coteaux du Layon that preceded it, in fact), good underlying acidity. It is the aromatics of this wine that I will never forget. Never seen in the U.S. and apparently quite a rarity even in France.
