  • From the birthplace of Malbec, we bring you dark black/purple wine of such immense "size" on the eye that one feels somewhat intimidated to sally forth with one's nose and palate. Fortunately, we are anything other than timid. We visited Chateau Eugenie several years ago, and we we simultaneously aghast at how bad and how good a single varietal drop could be. Yes, this Chateau makes it all from A to Z with every other letter in between. Never fear, we were delighted with sweet fruits and earthy notes on the nose. Palate of blackberries, tough tannins and a memorable finish. Powerful, slightly inelegant, but an awesome way to finish an evening as you no doubt will remember this slugger the next morning...especially when brushing the ink from your teeth, but equally from the memories of just how good Malbec FROM FRANCE (not Argentina) can be!

  • Monthly Tasting Group LTB 2014-02; Importer tasting; South West France: The color is almost like dark ink. In the bouquet ripe and sweet dark forest fruits and - it could be my imagination ;-) - ink as well. On the palate sweet and ripe dark forest fruits like blackberries and casiis, a firm dose of oak which still has to integrate, well controlled and soft acidity and tannin. Good length. Very well made wine which will improve with some ageing. Around 2017 or 2018? For this evening 88+.
