  • Dim Sum Club at Royal China (Royal China, Raffles Hotel, Singapore): This was very enjoyable, especially with a crispy duck dish. Popped and poured, the nose came acroos very fruity initially, with lots of sweet, candied berry and violet aromas and a whiff of glycerol that almost suggested a new world Pinot. It changed dramatically in the glass though, calming down very quickly to show more black fruited tones of dark cherries and blackberries, some meaty accents, with a hint of minty bramble and spice, a slight waft of fresh cut flowers even. I kinda liked this. On the palate, it was clear that the wine was not from the strongest vintage, with a lighter body to it, but this had a really charming feel, with a fresh liveliness behind its nice flavours of red dates, raspberries and dried cherries. Decent finish too, petering away in a little dusting of fine tannins and spice and a slight twist of orange peel. Not a complete wine, and this could well have been better say a few years back, but it was really enjoyable on the day. Quite a prefect pairing with our duck too.
