  • A better bottle than the last few. More structured, complex and pure overall. Still ruby red with just a very light touch of orange on the rim. Peppery nose to start, with dark red cherry and mineral notes. Palate started out with some very fine ripe tannins, but still balanced. That sorted out over couple of hours, not that it needed that much sorting, as the wine put on weight, fruit brightened and intensified. Long finish. Most enjoyable bottle of this wine in the recent past.

  • Drank over several days. More or less the same notes and flavours as previous bottles. This bottle was ready to drink, but certainly did not die over the few days it was open. Dark red fruit, mineral notes, good acidity and long and focused finish. (92)

  • Drank over two days. Little awkward the first day. All the same notes and flavours as previous bottles, with the tannins being more dominant than previously. Settled down by the second day with sweet dark red fruit, minerality, good acidity and very long and focused finish. So Beaune.

  • This bottle is in its prime. Starting to show just a touch of brick around the rim; red cherry and plum notes; the palate impressed with its elegance and good viscosity. Long finish.

  • Part of 2005 Burgundy tasting. Seventh and final in the lineup. Deep dark garnet. Wine of the Les Amis d’Ontario. Earthy nose with blackberry, boysenberry and plum. The palate delivers ripe fruit but avoids being overripe. There is also mineral note, decent acidity and ripe tannins that help carry the wine to a long finish. The wine kept improving in the glass throughout the night. Many years, maybe decades, ahead.
