When I think Tempranillo, I think warm sun-baked flavors that new world Cab drinkers can understand, but that have the finesse and structure to get them thinking about something a little less fruit forward and jammy. Alas, this wine goes too far and is too ripe. (I also find this almost universally in WA syrahs.) It's not bad wine, but it could be merlot because the acids are too low and the ripeness rounds it out past varietal character. And with lots of very good crianzas and even reservas available at under $20, this isn't the biggest value out there.

(Salida Tempranillo Yakima Valley) Lightly aromatic with pepper, herbs, red fruit, and mocha. The palate has sweet fruit flavors and dry, chalky tannins. 14.2% alcohol. Sample provided by winery.
