Still drinking really well. Opened a 2011 first (didn’t go well), and then this. Deep, dart, rich? And a really long finish. A brooding wine that speaks to the potential and heights of the area.

Prior bottle was almost five months ago and after the previously showing fell a bit short of expectations, I didn't have high hopes but was quite pleasantly surprised. This bottle certainly had some positive bottle variation. A mixture of blackberry, black cherry, earth and mineral notes on the nose. Between medium and full bodied and the general flavor profile was mostly unchanged: black cherry upfront, deeper plum behind and then blackberry and fine-grained tannins towards the back. The significant difference here was balance and integration. Mid-Body had more depth than the previous bottle showed and the various transitions (initial to mid-body and mid-body to finish) showed significantly better integration. No disjointedness or roughness this time around and the tannins and fruit were very much in balance whereas in the prior bottle, the tannins were rough and overpower the fading fruit. Best guess is there may have been a cork failure with the prior bottle that let air in and the wine aged prematurely. The bottle today was open for over six hours in total (same as prior bottle) and there was never a point where it felt like the fruit was dropping out and the tannins were as massively overpowering as they were in the prior bottle. That said, the wine is clearly on the other side of peak and while with a good bottle, it still shows well, I'd drink any bottles over the next two years. If my bottle from June was more an indicator of the future, this is a wine to enjoy now.

My first bottle from this producer and I'll admit to some disappointment with how it showed. Blackfruit (especially black cherry) along with mineral and earth notes on the nose. Close to full bodied (14.5% ABV) and even after being open for six hours was still much tighter than I expected and even felt noticeably out of balance. Black cherry upfront, evolving towards plum, but the mid-body transition was bumpy and didn't add anything of note along the lines of additional concentration or complexity. Transition to the finish was even rougher as it brought it some redfruit qualities, but tannins were pretty overpowering in this stage. Balance was way off, almost like the overall fruit has already started to fade and tannins are taking over. It didn't feel dull, dried out or tired; i.e. didn't resemble an older wine that had simply been open too long. Perhaps could be best explained as a fruit-forward styled wine that was in an odd evolutionary window. Given where the respective tannins and fruit are, not sure that more time will be of benefit. I'll probably try my last bottle in 2019 and see what happens.

PnP. Didn't not enjoy this as much as I did previously but it may have been the comparison to a 2001 Barolo. Less lush and less creamy with more tannins on the backend.

Drank this at the Passover seder. No notes, but still is delicious. Sorry to see this bottle go. It still has life ahead of it.
