  • Authoritative nose with notes of dried sour cherry, strawberry and tart fruits, translating onto palate. Purple-hued ruby color is deep and clear. Acids are mild-moderate and tannins are well integrated but not faded. Fruit is well-integrated and also not faded. Flavors of black pepper, macro-sugars and something mid-range I can't identify support the mature fruit flavors. All in all, I'm surprised and pleased that this wine is still as fresh as it is at 15 years. It is elegant, interesting and entirely enjoyable with the smoked baby back we are currently having.

  • Third bottle this year. This one started to show its age. Fruit is slightly roasted, dark plummy-blueberry fruit. It's dark and tarry, but it fades quickly. The lively acidity I remember from the bottle in the fall has tapered. I think I caught a coule bottles at just the right time. This one, it's ok, but nothing more.

  • Purple colour of medium depth, showing little age at the rim.
Reserved, but complex nose of pepper, blackberry and coffee supported by faint caramel. Also something a little lifted in there reminiscent of creosote (but not quite as bad as it sounds!).
On the palate it's medium bodied, spicy-fruited with refreshing acidity and a pretty long finish, with a little sourness that seems linked to the creosote I'm reminded of.

Not too sure what I think of this, it's certainly complex and interesting but that one aspect of the wine detracts for me.

  • Found this to be a real pleasure to drink. Dark, somehwat musky nose. Slight notes of oak. Palate is red fruited, earthy, slightly meaty, smoky. Northern Rhonish. Just a perfect touch of acidity that makes it all pop. No sh*t, a great bottle of CA Syrah. Best I've had in some time. Wow. Reminiscent of a '99 Pegau from last weekend. I really like it right now.Glad to have few more for drinking over the next couple years.

  • Showing a bit of age but holding up ok. I cant help but think this would have been better young though. Fruit is all red with a good degree of sourness on the front to it as well. Medium body. If I had more I would hold at this point to see if it ever turns into something more interesting.
