  • Tastes like a Starbuck's Caramel Macchiatto

  • The rum I tasted is not the one generally available in US stores, with a woven ring around the middle; it is the original, covered top-to-bottom. Also aged 23 years. I purchased it in Guatemala in 2006, and tasted it in April of 2010.

Color is nearly identical to Flor de Caña Centenario 12 Year, but flavor is quite different. The absence of smoke in this rum is conspicuous. The flavors are almost floral in the mid-palate, and include honeysuckle and orange blossoms. There is a strong element ofhoney. The molasses component is strong, yet honey certainly dominates the palate in a way few rums can boast. Silky smooth and much more viscous than most rums. Just delightful; one of the best liquors I've ever tasted. I prefer it to much more expensive cognacs thanks to the complexity of flavor and unique drinkability, the latter of which is thanks in large part to the lack of heat and viscous texture.

The best rum I've had. Truly exquisite.
