  • Super enjoyable, but the fruit faded out a bit and this doesn't quite feel as complete as previous bottles.

  • Un nez de Bloody Mary, une bouche légère et fruitée. Juste le bon niveau de funkiness

  • Very varietally correct, with pleasant notes of cranberry, red raspberry, cola, herbs and minerals. Medium+ acid, light tannins. Agree this does not scream warm-climate at all. Drink now or hold.

  • As a naysayer of 90% of CA Cab Franc, an extoller of Loire Valley, I was dubious about this, being from Paso Robles, save it was from Broc, and a thumbs up from respected palate Jon Bonne'.

While a aficionado won't mistake this as something from the Chinon, its a brilliant expression of what Cab Franc can be, unlike
90% of what I have tried in CA that is over oaked, over ripened, over extracted to be a replica of overdone Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chris manages to bring in Cab Franc from a warm climate at under 14% alc that isn't punishing in green pepper pryrazines, but fresh, interesting, and far more 'French' than California.

Notes taken after several hours opening.

Color is a cloudy cranberry purplish
Nose of raspberry, granite, cola nut
On the palate an integrated wave of tart raspberry, rhubarb, with a lean note of minerality this is consistent from from to finish.

Those looking for Napa cab clone will need an open mind and new palate.
Those looking for Chinon should have an open mind and admire this for what it is - a well done Cab Franc, in a style you wouldn't expect from Paso.
    I love being surprised..

    a bargain at $24

ps - people, when you smell/taste Cab Franc that has a green pepper smell or flavor - don't assume that its bad or under ripe. It can actually be quite correct, depending on vintage. Todays world of over ripened, over extracted, manipulated wines have pulled away from what Cab Franc should be....
