Blind tasted. Dried cherry, sour cherry, clove, dried violets, red licorice, baked strawberry. The age made it seem more like an Old World wine, I said 2009 Right Bank Merlot.

Poured it through a vinturi and into a decanter, where it sat for another 30-60 minutes before making it into our glasses; was very happy with the result.

What is there (flavor, texture, aroma, etc.) is very good, but it needed more depth and concentration to merit a higher score. Dark cherry, spice, earth and oak with a slightly lean, slightly sharp-edged texture. Surprisingly long finish given the lack of depth on the mid-palate. I thought it drank very well in spite of the shortcomings.

This is the type of wine you just want to hold in your mouth and let the flavors wash over you. Wood, cherry, anise, clove, blackberry, chocolate and vanilla, the wine is heavy, crisp and smooth with great balance.
