A sad moment for a kid who lived in the heart of the Southern Rhone, as I think this bottle has convinced me that I don't really care for the S. Rhone, grenache-led, blends anymore. And that is not a knock on Saladin, quite the contrary in fact. Prior to this, I was able to blame Cambis-ized and Parker-ized wines for my moving away from the region. Here though, the varietals and terroir come through clear as a bell, I just don't love them. Sweet red fruit, a touch of garrigue, a small hint of tobacco. This is a competent, well-made, fairly traditional Cotes du Rhone unlike most of the overripe over-extracted crap out there, but it lacks some acid an a lot of nuance that would keep wanting more.

Smoky on the nose, with charcoal, meat and pepper overtop bright raspberry fruit. Crisp acid balances out the medium-grain tannins. The raspberry and sour cherry fruit is laced wth meat and pepper. A blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Carignan and 20% Syrah.

Good value for the price. Pairs excellently with grilled steak. Good mouth feel, but short on the finish.
