  • Very dark. Nose has licorice, cherry and raspberry and alcohol. Lots of cherry, leather and garrigue. Medium finish with firm tannin. This is like a clean, focused CndP. Good for several more years.

  • I am sad to see the last of this wine and be unable to get more. This is a gloriously colored and perfumed Lirac - deep dark red with crimson at the rim; gently translucent against the light. The nose is rich with dark red fruit vanilla and spice. The palate displays a wealth of mixed dark summer berries, spices and pepper. The fruit is rich and the dusty tannin displays muscle and flexibility, finishing long with a great whack of juice-laden minerality. Notes absolutely consistent with March 2013 notes on this second tasting.

  • Deep purple – this wine rocks! This is a really well put together Lirac from a fabulous producer. Great dark and red fruit flood the nose swept along on a bed of flowers. This 50:50, Grenache:Syrah blend sends blackberry, cherry, raspberry, pepper flood across the palate with good concentration, accompanied by wonderful minerality and a hint of seaweed wrapper in a lengthy and full finish. It is all assembled on a delicate frame of fruit tannin, sufficient to promise further development in the bottle over the next 4 years or so. I love Rhone wines, and this one reinforces my belief that great wines can still be bought relatively cheaply from the southern soils of the Rhone Valley.
