Big big red. Bouquet has a little concrete, pepper, grass, surprising amount of alcohol. Palette is deep red fruit, slightly bitter, perfect mid-dry. Relatively thin mouthfeel, with slightly sweet aftertaste.

I continue to be impressed with Mayr's wines - not just the quality but the distinct terroir they display. This Lagrein was enjoyed with veal chops seasoned with rosemary and garlic as well as green beans. The wine's keen mineral flavors paired nicely (would have been even better with the addition of sage). As with so many reds from this region they give the impression of being much bigger than actuality.

At Dodici blind dinner. Paired with 2011 Nusserhof Tyroldego. Really enjoyed this. Many said it was paler than Pinot. Very delineated flavors amplified by a nervy acidity.

PnP into a PN glass to kick some air into this quickly. Very dark almost CA cab like color. Big nose that borders on stinky but fortunately mostly delivers a more peppery bacon nose than funk. This borders on rustic in the mouth but the fruit concentration keeps it tasty. This is definitely a wine that expresses it's terroir/ unique grape and not winemaker magic. Very transparent and authentic! Much to like here but I'm not sure I'd want to drink this more than once a year. Not completely in my wheel house but I admire the quality and authenticity. Only 13% Alc but to look at the color you expect 14.5 plus. No heat just a juicy mouthful of spicy dark fruit with some tannin to resolve. I'll end up buying one of these again in a couple years.

Tasty raspberry, floral, and black pepper notes on the nose and palate with moderate drying tannins on the finish.
