What a beautiful bottle of wine. A sophisticated gently sweet bitter dessert. Lively, bright, soft-but-textured fruit, bacon, dark cherries, menthol, hay, copper. Blew away the more expensive 2001 Conn Valley Right Bank merlot / cab franc blend. If any weakness, it's a little straight forward and it trails off at the back of the tongue.

i took this bottle over to a firend's house because they just saw "Sideways", and I wanted them to taste a good merlot (and I've always been a contrarian at heart). This wine did illicit a few "yummy" comments, and as it sat in the glass, the responses were more effusive. They were even able to discern the chocolate (her) and the plum (him) characteristics. Nice mouthfeel and finish. I did not detect any "heat" that another poster said a year ago. I'm guesssing the bottle age helped. Drink this great value in the next 2-3 years.

A nice merlot - tended towards sharp on the pallet for me. A distinct hint of alcohol on the nose, 30 second rapidly diminshing finish but all around pleasant in that regard. Hints of plum, dried fruit and an absence of smoke.

Finally coming into its own. Good texture, rich merlot character. Those astrigent tannins seem to have mellowed since my last visit. Tasty!
