  • Super fresh, red fruit. Some floral notes. Not hugely complex, surprisingly stiff tannins. Kind of generic and one note.
First time drinking Nerello Mascalese.. Perhaps this isnt the best example?

  • light red fruit on the first impression with a certain spiciness to it. It's nicely complemented by a mineral structure in the mouth that enhances the lightness you get from the red fruit. P/Q one of the better Etna wines.

  • opened straight of the wine fridge, very closed on the nose. Left it for a couple of hours and it showed some remarkable improvement, more and more aromas developing as the temperature rises. Balanced, noce silky tannine structure, subtle aromas with Burgundy-like qualities. Falls just a tiny bit short on the finish, but I have hopes that this will be balanced out in the future.

  • Burgundersk farve. Annerledes opplevelse for som drikker nesten bare franskt; oliventapenade, touch av lavendel, urter, noe brent, men på en positiv måte. Lett sødme i fruktanslaget, bra struktur, lett tørrende i finish. En vin jeg liker veldig godt, og som bidrar med noe nytt.

  • Italy Tasting: Pale garnet/brick color. Discrete nose of strawberries, some flowers and minerals (lava stone). The wine surprises with a medium-light body, pretty high tannins, high acidity and almost Burgundy-like texture. This wine is all about freshness and elegance, which are usually not the first attributes that come to mind when you hear Sicily. But Nerello Mascalese produces exactly these results in higher altitudes. It's definitely not the most expressive Nerello in the market, but a nice reasonably-prized introduction to this interesting grape.
