  • A blend of Sangiovese (55%), Merlot (40%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). Macerated for 18 days. Aged for 18 months in barriques (2/3 new, 1/3 old). 13,5% alcohol.

Very deep and dark, almost opaque blackcurrant color. Quite a bit of deposit in the bottle, so decanting is recommended. The nose is developed with aromas of ripe blackcurrant, wizened sour cherries, a little bit of tobacco and earthy mature tones, a hint of sweet black cherry and a touch of something distinctively Bordelais je-ne-sais-quoi. The wine is full-bodied, dry and tannic on the palate with robust, savory flavors of leather, tobacco, sour cherries, bitter crowberries, some earth and a hint of spicy wood in the background. The wine is still very firmly structured and tightly-knit with moderately high acidity and rather grippy tannins. The finish is dry, bitter and tannic with long, savory flavors of sour cherries, tobacco, some bloody meat character, a little bit of earth and a touch of fresh blackcurrant. The tannins make the wine end on a textural, astringent note.

A nicely developed Super Tuscan red that is not only fully alive, but still surprisingly youthful and tightly-knit. The fruit department is starting to show some age with moderately noticeable tertiary characteristics and mature non-fruit flavors, but structurally the wine is still quite unforgiving if enjoyed on its own. The acidity gives the wine length and vibrancy, whereas the grainy and chewy tannins make the wine come across very structured, hard and grippy. Flavor-wise the wine doesn't need much age - or any more age at all - but some years in a cellar might unresolve the tightly knit texture of the wine a bit more. I heartily recommend you to decant let the bottle stand upright for some time to let the deposit settle down, decant the wine off the deposit and pair it with something hearty enough to soften the structure a bit. Impressive wine.

  • Gedronken over 2 dagen:
