Having really enjoyed the savory character of a Dehlinger Syrah last night, I grabbed this for tonight hoping that the savory characteristics I had previously noted would be available, while still being pleasant on the patio in muggy mid-80s F weather. 60 minute decant, served at 55 F. Light garnet color. At a cooler temperature, the vanilla came to the forefront on the nose, with a pleasant supporting raspberry base and hints of mushroom. Savory raspberry fruits on the palate, with a hint of oak spice. Well-integrated alcohol, low acidity. Smooth. The pure-raspberry fruit finish lingered longer than I remembered.

Pulled from the cellar, 45-minute decant, served in the low 60s. An explosion of raspberry aromas when I poured the wine into the decanter. Light garnet color, no bricking. Initially a big nose of pure raspberry fruit, hints of vanilla, mint and mushroom emerged with time. Well integrated acidity, smooth, light bodied wine with a short, clean finish. Uncomplicated red fruits on the palate with a slight bit of savory earthiness and spice. Drink now.

Heirloom instead of Margaux: I wasn't expecting much from this wine, but it was surprisingly better than I thought it would be. It is a big pinot noir with rich dense fruit.

A Mixed Bag at Heirloom (Heirloom, St.Paul, MN): Medium dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour. Forward red fruits, tart cherry, cranberry, with some oak and spice. The palate is riper, though not to what many RRV's typically are, straightforward, juicy red cherry, tart cherry, good acid and spices on the finish. 90+ to 91pts.
