  • Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah
Bottle drunk over four days. Needs temperatures > 11-12 deg Cel.
Clear, pale golden color. Clean, medium intense, youthful-developing nose. On the first days driven by white pepper, vegetable notes, some honey, mineral notes, garden herbs and very few fruit. Over time a lovely elegant pear note emerged as well. Complex, compact, dense.
Dry. Racy, medium+ acidity. Medium+ alcohol (13,5% abv), the only real problem I have with this wine. Though the racy acidity masks the alcohol quite well, sometimes it shines through and gives this wine a bit sharp/hot touch. Medium intense flavors, also driven by spices, mineral notes but also some very nice white fruit (pear). Creamy mouthfeel, good tension, very good balance and anice, lingering, medium+ finish. This wine is still very young and will continue to develop for at least 3-5+ years. Good PQR. 88-90

  • The German Firebird certainly continues to light up the taster. A beautiful interpretation of this varietal. I keep repeating this is perhaps the best Silvaner I have tasted. With its rich exotic fruit, vibrant acidity and flower component it moves from clarity to clarity. The palate adds to the overall impression with a nice balance and integration. You can feel a slight creaminess perhaps from the oak treatment, but in a subtle and elegant way. With a length on the finish of about 40+ seconds, this wine is a true gem.

  • The Feuervogel might be an odd bird, but certainly one of those you wish to see more often. This wine is truly intriguing and while it might not be an effort for the faint hearted taster, if keeping an open mind it delivers a magnificent experience. Perhaps the best Silvaner I have personally tasted there is rich exotic fruit, vibrant acidity and a flower component which is just amazing. The palate adds to the experience with lovely balance and an integration which reveals the oak treatment, but in a subtle and perhaps even elegant way. With a length on the finish of about 45 seconds, there is no doubt this wine is a true pleasure. I will keep coming back to this vintage and others in the future.

  • Amazing Silvaner which has the richness and depth of good Silvaner, but also the crisp and razor sharp acidity normally only found in good Rieslings. This wine is state-of-the-art Silvaner. There is not the slightest doubt about it. Creamy lychee and peach melba are accompanied by lemon and lime zest as well as a lot of saline minerals with a whiff of oyster. The palate is full throttle and has a lovely viscosity. With a 50+ second length on the finish there is no doubt the Riesling aficionado just has to adore this interpretation of Silvaner. It has plenty of structure to last for many years in the cellar. Lovely!

  • As lovely as during last tasting. This wine is a true powerhouse with an elegant intriguing razor sharp acidity. Paired with the gentle oak treatment there is also a creaminess which balances the acidity in superb way. I simply love this effort and it continues to shine every time I taste it. There is no doubt this wine will continue to shine for at least a decade. For a more detailed tasting note, please refer to my below note from 2013-09-29.
