  • From the winery:

Fortmiller Syrah is typically picked around October 20th and in warmer years, as early as the 12th in 2012. But after a cool growing season in 2011 it arrived November 1st and was one of the last lots we pressed for the year towards the end of that month. It was worth the wait with Southern Oregon’s tendency towards a cool, dry finish for Autumn carrying the fruit nicely to the winery. I love the intensity of the Syrah from this vineyard and we frequently press the grapes to twice the pressure compared to Pinot Noir; Syrah has a lot to give and I want every last drop. The result is a full bodied wine, with beautiful, intense fruit which pairs nicely with new French and American Oak.

Rich, extracted dark fruits of marionberry, plum and fresh currant blend with complex toasted oak characters of vanilla, cocoa, subtle smoke and spicy clove with secondary aromas of savory bacon-wrapped fig, tobacco and dried cherry. Abundant flavors of blackberry pie with toasty crust and vanilla framed with structured tannins and bittersweet cocoa accented by cherry-cola, black pepper and toasted marshmallow. youthful tannins are significant in the long finish and will soften with time as the acid keeps the wine lively and fruity.

Fortmiller Syrah is always age-worthy, but can be appreciated in its youth with bold food pairings. Enjoy the wine now and as it ages through 2019.
