  • This bottle showed better than the first - less advanced, with more fruit. Still, it seemed to be at the first stages of drying out. My wife and I really enjoyed this well made Syrah. Good Red Mountain acidity and really very nice flavor profile.

  • Recent auction purchase.
A lot of un-integrated American Oak influence here with not much body left. I never tasted this in its youth, but this bottle seems dried out to me, with just a frame of toasty oak and oak tannin left. One more bottle left from the auction lot -- we'll see soon how that one shows. I've not had many Hedges reds, but the ones I've had have all been much too heavily oaked for my palate, and I think this bottling is not an exception, based on the amount of oak left. 13 years seems too young for the fruit to have dropped out as well, but maybe that's the nature of the vineyard. We'll see how the second bottle shows. If scoring, this would be around 78 - 80 for me, with this bottle, today. Just not a lot of pleasure or interest with it.

  • More later on this beautiful representation of Red Mountain Syrah. Spectacular!. So, here's the rest. This Syrah connected from start to finish. The balance between fresh Red Mountain fruit, oak, and acidity is totally captivating. Wish I had a ton more of this. Next time I visit Red Mountain AVA, I will make a plea for some bottles of this 2008 Syrah.

  • I truly enjoy WA state wine, especially Syrah and this wine is one of the best that I have tasted. Deep opaque ruby red with a hint of purple. Ready to drink for its intense fruit profile. Not the meatiness of Cote Rotie. More dark fruit aromas with a complex earthiness and a hint of bacon fat. the flovor is amazing. Tart acidity that literally melds or melts into firm but ripe tannins and finishing with an intense dollop of dar blackberries; a full mouthfeel and an extended and beautifully balanced finish. This wine was recommended by the owner of the Wine Cellar in POrt Townsend WA, businessman and wine lover who really knew the entire range of WA wine. Fine wine experience for the money. Buy more.

  • Excellent! Very drinkable, but will likely age well. Fans of Hedges and Red Mountain so we can't go wrong.
