  • Late night impromptu session. Drank in Grassl Cru. Already 1 day of air in bottle.
Appearance not clear with sediments, medium intensity, ruby colour with garnet rim. Thin legs.
Nose not clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of funky animal brett, heady perfume, sweet orange pulp, bacon fat, crushed violets, dark vegetables. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12%), integrate high tannins, medum+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of lethery animal, bacon fats, dark vegetals, liquid perfume, sweet orange pulp, dark red cherries, sweet plums, blackberries. Long and acceptably funky finish.
Very good quality. Natural and funky but in a very tasteful way rather than being faddish. Sure appeals to me. Love this.

  • Brought it to a dinner and this was not a crowd pleaser. Niche appeal.

I liked it. Nose was slightly awkward and palette was savoury and dark fruit initially.. Still nice but could get better i thought.

With 2 hours of in bottle air, wow - it transformed. Burg-like Rhone wine if i can call it that. Retains that elegance while maintaining the savoury, bacon-ny notes.

Really interesting to me. A friend has other vintages so i am going to pester him to open...

  • Such in a great spot, paired with red deer filet, complex aromas of game, bacon fat, blueberry, iodine and black pepper and violet. This is extremely smooth on the palate with polished tannins structure, coats the palate entirely, nice iron touch on the finish that sails forever. Great bottle.

  • Beautiful nose of sour cherry, bacon, blueberry, cranberry, meat, barnyard. Really racey, fresh wine, 12% alcohol. This is such a nice Syrah, on the opposite side of the spectrum of the Barossa bruisers. Early maturity, no heat or heavyness of the 2009 vintage visible.
