  • Roundness underlain by acidity, good stoniness but not a lot of slate expression here. Medium weight. Very nice tonight -- drink or hold. It would be a lovely summer match with grilled fish. Cellared since original release.

  • Very nice mineral-driven wine that was drunk over a few days and didn't seem to budge. Notes of grapefruit, flint and seashells.

  • Black Lion Wine Club - Riesling and 2002 Bordeaux (The Black Lion): The wine is clear and pale lemon in colour.
The nose is clean with medium (+) intensity aromas of citrus (lemon zest, lime), green fruit (apple), floral (white blossom), other (mineral, wet stones), hint of tertiary (petrol). The wine is developing.
The palate is off-dry with high acidity, medium alcohol, medium (-) body, medium (+) intensity of lemon, lime, apple, white blossom, mineral, petrol. The finish is medium (+).
The wine is very good quality. The acidity balances the hint of sweetness and the fruit concentration, there is some emerging complexity. It lacks a little length and concentration to be outstanding.
The wine can be drunk now but it suitable for further ageing. It has the acidity and concentration to develop further tertiary characteristics over the next 3-5 years

  • Double decanted a couple of hours before drinking! Once again this is outstanding! Intense, complex, long and intriguing with great acidity. Slightly more full and fruity feel (not bone dry) than before.

  • Once again excellent but young. The wine seems to be opening up a little bit more, though, already soon after opening (while a few months ago it took several hours to open up). Really intense and long with loads of salty minerals.
