  • Found a local place still serving the 2010. The Fiddletown has always been a little upgrade from the Amador, and this year is no exception. The wine has a pretty acidic nose with alcohol odors. First taste has mellowed and, honestly, is starting to fall apart. I sense this one is just passing its peak. Finish is smoothed out and it doesn't have a zin kick back at the end. Overall, it remains a solid wine, but needs consumed now.

  • Decide to go out for some Indian food at “Preethi Indian Cuisine” in Davis, which is a South Indian restaurant that has good food AND no corkage fee! We usually don’t drink Zin, but had a 2010 Easton bottle in the cabinet and it was only 14.5% so figured wth, we’ll try that. But, we also had a 2012 Field Stone Convivio which wasn’t getting any younger, so I decide to bring that one to drink and have the Zin as a backup in case the Convivio was bad. We opened the Convivio, but didn’t like it. There was too much tannin and it seemed weak, so much tannin – if fact – it could probably have gone another few years. So, we opened the Easton Zin (Diana will use the Convivio for cooking). Ugh, the Zin was a total fruit-bomb (which seems pretty normal for Zin’s now: is it a Zin or a Port?). We couldn’t drink it. So, we went back to the Convivio. That tasted pretty good compared to the Zin, at least it wasn’t sweet; and actually – over the last 15 minutes – it seems to be getting better. Well, we ended up blending them: 50-50 seemed a nice mix and went well with the spicy Indian food.
