  • Piedmont 2013, Day 3 - Visit to Giuseppe Cortese (Rabajà, Babaresco, Piedmont, Italy): There was a notable change of gear with this wine – while the few that we started with were clearly built to be everyday quaffers, this had some serious quality to it. This was clear even from the nose, which showed deeper fruit aromas, with blackberries, plums and cassis sprinkled with a nice peppery spice. Pretty attractive. The palate was a lot more textured than the previous wines as well, with silky tannins lending a little chew to an otherwise elegant, open-knit expression of blackberries and black cherries gently seasoned with a spicy linger at the finish. I enjoyed this. Still on the simple, straightforward side, but it was nicely fresh and drinkable Barbera.
