  • 8,8 g/l residual sugar, 7,1 g/l acidity.

Pale lime green color. Very expressive and open nose with ripe aromas of lemon zest, some developed petrol tones, a little bit of peachy yellow fruit and a hint of honey. The wine is ripe, medium-bodied and quite mineral-driven on the palate with ripe flavors of tart lemony citrus fruits, steely minerality, some peachy stone fruits, a little bit of petrol, light floral tones and a hint of stony minerality. The high acidity makes the wine feels enjoyably bright and structured. The finish is long, lively and quite racy with pronounced acid zing and intense flavors of steely minerality, lemony citrus fruits, some ripe yellow fruits like peach and pineapple, a hint of honeyed richness and a touch of petrol.

I've never been a big fan of German whites from the 2011 vintage, but every now and then a wine manages to surprise me positively. This time it was the Dr. Loosen offshoot in Pfalz, who have made a surprisingly racy and mineral single-vineyard Riesling that shows the ripeness and richness typical of the vintage, but also lots of fresh, incisive acidity and wonderfully bright minerality. The wine is starting to show the first signs of age in the fragrant petrol tones, but overall the wine feels so very youthful I doubt it will show its best before its 10th birthday. A delightful effort, recommended.

  • Closed nose opens with warmth showing stone fruit. Sweet orange blossom and a little petrol on the palate. Then spicy lemonade. A touch bitter. Will improve?
