  • {cork, 13.5%} A quick decant just before drinking. Not much sediment though. Restrained but aged nose; eventually remnants of liquorice and black berry flavours. There's not much oak or acid evident, but there are still traces of grainy tannins, much softened. Not huge complexity; it seems to be a wine that has faded rather than developed. But pleasant enough, if rather short-finishing; would have been better 5 years ago no doubt. Still, suggests that Uruguay can make very drinkable wines these days.

  • Dark glass-clinging red-purple in the glass. Drinking pour is opaque purple-black. Dark fruit, ash, meaty tar on the shy nose. Firm tannins that don't fade much even after some air. Barely ripe blackberry, black pepper, and ash rule the palate. Finish is lengthy and dark. A first-rate New World expression of the grape in Uruguay. And a steal at fifteen dollars or so. Enjoy by 2018 with char-b-que meats or feijoada.
