My past experience with this rarely seen grape was a very good 2002 which benefited from 5 extra years of ageing. So I think the tannins on this could use a few more years to soften. None the less an interesting experience.

Very interesting and unique wine. From my research, Uruguay winemakers pretty much have a lock on the process for Tannat. Another I tried from California wasn't good. But this wine is actually quite good. You can tell it's normally used in blends to add structure and body. On it's own, it's huge, dense - black fruits barely discernible through the thicket of tannins. With a hearty stew, it works. I'd consider buying more if I can find it.

Dark inky color. Full-bodied. Lots of flavor, but not much of this is fruit. Some chocolate, some spice, but also the taste of rubber. Dense, somewhat tannic, but it desperately needs some more acidity. Truly an interesting wine, just not a great wine.

Dark purple, full-bodied wine. Nose is dominated by leather, with blackberry undertones. Very intense tannins, supported by an abundance of black fruit. Very long finish. This is an intriguing wine, very distinctive and well worth trying. A bit rough around the edges, but attractive, nevertheless.

Lively aromas, strangely thin at mid palate, intense finish with dark fruit
