Wasn't sure what to expect when I bought this bottle. My only other exposure to aglianico was a nice taurasi. This didn't measure up, of course. Among other things, just looking at the vintage told me it wasn't aged for the three year minimum. And while the aroma was similar, it lacked the taurasi's lush body, balance, and finish. However for $6, if you're in a pinch, it's certainly drinkable.

As a $5 Trader Joe's purchase this represents a reasonable value. Dark indigo with fine legs. Smoke-laced cranberries and blackberries with some forest notes. Clipped finish. Medium bodied with remarkable purity for such a low-priced offering. Try it, if you can find it.

Grade: G+. Last of the Trader Joes sub-$10.00 wines. Aglianico is another of the grapes used by the Ancient Romans. This is soft, fruity fun (blackberries and strawberries) with some structure to back it up. The bottle looks a lot more expensive than the wine tastes, but good value for $6-$7.
My Grades: EXX=Exceptional, EX=Excellent, VG=Very Good, G=Good, O=Ordinary, P=Poor, U=Ungraded

Aromas and flavors of mild dark berries and fresh game. Medium body, decent acidity, and a tariff of $5 equals a good bottle of wine. Finish drops off a bit quick but that's expected at this price point.
