  • Dinner with the Neighbours (Old Airport Road): Malt sugar on the nose. Bit of sulfur and burnt match also. Balanced sweetness on the palate with lime on the mid-palate. Just enough acidity to prevent the sugars cloying on the medium finish. Sulfur and burnt match continues from the nose onto the palate, masquerading somewhat like a toasted oak flavour of chardonnay (but cannot be because this is a German Riesling). Now I get what KUUMIES means about this having obvious sulfur. However, the balanced sweetness provided enough enjoyment to keep my fellow dinner mates happy. 8% alcohol.

  • Mosel+screwcap=fail. It is simply ridiculous how often these screwcapped German Rieslings are ruined by excess sulfury note. On the palate the wine has enough fruit to cover the burnt match flavor when enjoyed with food but on its own the wine is clearly exposed. Too bad, since otherwise this would have probably been a perfectly decent Kabinett.
