  • Old Sangiovese nose. Stewed plum, raspberry, black cherry, leather and eucalyptus. Soft, round dark fruits on the palate - blackberry, blueberry and prunes, with just enough freshness to keep this from being dusty. Warm spiced balsamic finish. Stately and delicious, and still has a few years of life left yet.

  • Dark red with red edges. Sweet ripe dark fruit nose, some oak obvious but in balance. Nice drk fruit flavours, not sweet or rich but very balanced and a mid tannic finish. An excellent wine.

  • Bill's Monthly Lunch - January 2012 (Vancouver, BC): Tasted blind – dark red colour. Cooler nose but with sweeter cherry and plum aromas and noticeable oak treatment. In the mouth this is rich with concentrated dark fruit flavours and lots of acidity and medium tannins. Nice length. Drinking very well now but this is far from falling apart. Excellent.

  • Pop n pour. I don't come across many wines that have such primal, yet singular barnyard aromas to them; one sniff and I knew this was something very special. After 10 minutes most of the barnyard aromas had blown off, (very) slowly revealing a very pure core of fruit and spices. This wine is all about showing off. The bouquet never really got in the way of the fantastic terroir and fruit elements, and the barnyard elements remained in the background for the duration of the first half of the bottle. I was quite content to smell the wine and witness its profoundness for 45 minutes before leaving the glass on the counter and driving back to the store that I purchase it from; it wasn't to be, they were sold out. One of the most remarkable wines I've had in '09. This was marked down from $45 to $23. Certainly one of the nicest wines I've ever come across from the Marche. I'll drink the rest tomorrow night.   • Very deeply colored wine, with a rather reticent nose of plums, cherries cinamon, and herbs. Plush, medium to full bodied palate, somewhat modern in style, with more plum, cherry, pepper and oak on the palate. Better on the second night, but although this wine had many of the requisites of a great wine - e.g., balance and concentration - I still can't get too excited about this wine. All the parts are there, but the wine didn't really do much for me. It could improve over the years, as it will certainly last another 5-7 years easy. Right now, for me this is a B+ wine: very good, but not great.
