Still very youthful so obviously no rush to drink it. Leather and cedar being more prominent than the blackcurrants on the palate. Silky with no jagged edges. Some spice too. Most enjoyable.

Aerated, probably unnecessarily, so the nose was quite open, with dark fruit tones showing through. Very proper Bordeaux left bank flavours, velvety texture with dried cherries, black currents, leather and more on the palate, but lacked intensity. Very good but not great.

This is so minerally upon opening, it's like blood, and that iron, so captivating, leads to a deep, rich, thoroughly engaging nose featuring notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry, tar, leather, menthol, and smoke. Leave it there and it's great wine, better even than Glenelly's less expensive but truly wonderful Grand Vin. Keep going and it isn't, as it's rather thin and severe on the palate, with less of that dark fruit and little of that complexity, a disjointed mix of cran-cherry, raisin, wood, and excessive bitterness through dusty tannins and, more pleasantly, a decently long finish. Perhaps that sounds harsh. It's still quite good overall. It's just something of a disappointment given that it's Glenelly's flagship wine, a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, and 5% Merlot, and quite a bit more expensive than the Grand Vin (in Ontario, $34+ compared to $20).
