Pale golden. Excessively woody from the start, showing unpleasant astringency and tar. Corked and relegated to the fridge. Not much better the second night. On the third some of the excessive tarry notes blew off — but just some, and at that point we gave up.

The wine looks greenish gold colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like lemon, orange, rose, pineapple, biscuity, honey, hazelnut, orange blossom, toast, cedar, vanilla, mineral and stoniness. It tastes like mineral, stoniness, toast, vanilla, rose, hazelnut, biscuity, lemon, pineapple and pear. The body is full. The wine has bright texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

This is what happens when you combine an excellent producer with a totally underated burgundy plot. Leflaive consistently turns out amazing stuff (I tasted at the winery several months ago) and St. Aubin makes top notch white burgundy at 1/5 the price of some of the insane grand cru vineyards. Nose is a knockout and the clarity of the wine is beautiful, but the wood is still a tad up front. Give a year or two. Great wine.

Light golden straw. Balanced, but with pronounced wood; probably excessive. Still, enjoyable enough over three nights.
