There is clear bottle variation. This presented at first as somewhat harsh -- dark rubber, almost a bit acrid, with a very narrow taste profile; as time passed, it began to open and mellow a bit -- after 3 hours there was a cherry cough drop note in the nose and the initial palate, with some earthy notes and still some rubber (almost industrial -- not off putting, but a bit like a wall that slowly crumbles to reveal a bit more fruit). Perhaps this can go a bit longer? Will try more in a day, and then decide whether to drink my last bottle soon or wait a bit. If nothing else, this so far has been a very interesting wine.

I am afraid this is past its time. There is still something interesting in the first ten to twenty minutes -- some relatively nice fruit, some fleetingly complex secondary aromas and flavors. But after that initial period it falls apart -- not worth the calories to continue to try......

Nice rustic nose – tar, leather – with a nice note of cherry, cola, and even root beer. On the palate a bit more subdued, but quite nice. Nice weight in the mouth; flavors of cherry, cola, with slight hints of pine wood, and some nice but not overpowering tannin to give it some nice structure. Nice long fnish – no bitterness, just a nice fading note of flavors that seems to keep going for a good thirty seconds or more.

Mature ruby color with significant bricking. Sweet, warm Grenache nose. The '98 Gigondas are drinking so well these days. Great fruit and lovely balance though a bit week on the finish. Black pepper note. Drink up as it won't get better. (89)
