  • On the pnp this was shut down. No nose. No palate. All acid and out of balance. After 15 minutes in the glass it started opening, but still it seemed tight and not willing to give up what it was holding. Still acidic.

After hours of breathing it starting showing spice and floral notes on the nose along with black and blue fruits.

The palate of black fruits, tar, fig, and light smoke are balanced with slightly mouth drying tannins. Long finish. I was pleased to not find any green vegetal notes (pyrazines). This wine came around nicely. 88

At $21 not a solid QPR, but hey, it's from France... :)

Observation: my first Cahors Malbec. It's a completely different beast than the fruit driven Argentinian Malbecs. Still a good amount of fruit, but more old world in style than their Argentinian brethren.

Edit: popped this three days ago. Poured one glass, tasted and made notes. Stored 1/2 bottle in Pladypus (just a small bubble of air inside,) left one glass in bottle. Next night had glass in bottle. Meh. Third night had 3rd glass from Pladypus. An improvement, but only slight. Tonight, the forth and final glass. It too, from the Pladypus. Improved. Fruit toned down. Layers of fruit, tobacco, vanilla, all with a mouth filling viscosity and tannic backbone. Raised from 88 to 89.
