Half bottle courtesy of tlv. Notes were not a priority at this point of the evening but my brief notes suggested ripe stone fruits and floral elements with balancing acidity. 89-90 pts.
Clear, deep gold. Aroma of yeast, old oak, vanilla, alcohol, pear and orange. Tastes of pear, green apple, orange marmalade with old oak, vanilla, and expressive yeast lending a copper-penny note. Alcohol (15.4%) is noticeable. Moderately long finish. Rich body from residual sugars. The yeast and oak dominated at first, but with more air, the fruit came through better and it grew on me. A style more suitable as a dessert or aperitif wine.

The 6th Quinquennial Wine and Food Extravaganza (New Jersey, USA): Ridge usually co-ferments their Viognier and Syrah from the Lytton Estate to make a Cote-Rotie style wine but this vintage the Syrah under-produced and they made this wine with the extra Viognier. It is ever so lightly sweet, but this was pretty much overpowered by the various more weighty dessert wines. This probably works better as an aperitif with its lightly floral notes. On its own it was just fine but it got lost in this flight.

Dark straw color, nose of apricots and Zagnut bar. On release this was all about American oak, and that's somewhat receded, but still a strange wine. Not really sweet at all. Underripe fresh pineapple, dill, and toasted coconut on the palate. Probably best paired with a savory dish.
