  • Decanted for 2h after a difficult week. What a beautiful way to end your Friday, huge nose of vanilla and violets, on the palate vibrant red fruit, followed by tannins, minerals, tar, and just the perfect amount of acidity. A beautiful barolo in her prime. 93/94

  • Opened and decanted for 4h, this is really singing! Huge floral nose with vanilla, on the palate round red cherries, with a smooth transition to minerals, spices, acid, faint tannins. Long finish. This is in its sweet spot, finally. Tonight with pan seared duck and red curry.

  • Decanted for 2-5h and enjoyed throughout. Tonight I'm getting mostly roses and vanilla on the nose, cedar and some baking spices as well. The palate has intense juicy cherries, backed by tar, minerals, graphite, tannins, and balanced by acid in the long peppery finish. Great complexity and integration and this stage. Softer and more feminine than the '11 Bera Riserva Rabaja I enjoyed last night, and just as intense and impressive. Tonight with pan seared duck, and a stir fry of four different mushrooms, napa cabage, and Chinese broccoli tips. This really showed its best after 3-4h in a decanter. 92/93

  • Opened to breathe for 6h. Immediately after opening, soft violets, tar on the nose and palate, red fruit with medium to light tannins, very approachable. With more air, sweet cherries and stawberries emerged. A feminine, soft and curvy expression of barolo. More violets, lavender, and acid on day 2.

  • Chez Garth, 2 min in iSomm, then decanted for 30 min. In a vertical with '00 and '98, the '09 tied for second place with the '98, albeit for different reasons. This is a young prodigy of a Barolo, hints of class that will evolve, but still with some unresolved tannins and in the early stages of coming together. Thoroughly enjoyable and otherwise consistent with previous note.
