  • Consistent with my previous tasting notes.

A big, tropical and very ripe white that shows almost paradoxically high acidity for a wine of its size, nice sense of minerality and very pronounced, robust and even somewhat bitter spicy edge. Feels like the wine could develop a lot from here. Terrific stuff, solid value at 20,10€.

  • Fermented in stainless steel and old oak casks. Aged for 8 months in stainless steel on the lees and a further 2 months in the bottles. 12,5% alcohol, 5,7 g/l acidity, 7 g/l residual sugar.

Medium deep lemon yellow color. Quite rich and expressive nose, that feels like it's midway between a ripe Chardonnay and an Austrian Grüner Veltliner, with a hint of Zierfandler's own varietal flair; aromas of ripe pineapple, juicy red apple, apricot, some pear, a little spiciness, hints of exotic flowers and a whiff of almonds. Quite full-bodied and oily on the palate, yet with remarkably high, almost bracing acidity, giving the wine great focus and intensity. It feels almost as if there was a hint of carbonation in the wine, because of the prickly character of this acidity, but I assume this is not the case, as this prickle does not blow off at all with time. Very powerful and even robust flavors of intense spiciness and rich, concentrated fruit like canned pineapple, somewhat almond-like flavors of peach and apricot pits, some mango, a little bit of overripe apple, a hint of smoke and a touch of star fruit. Underneath the fruit lingers a faint, yet slightly bitter undertow of chalky minerality. Tremendous balance. The finish is dry, quit long and very spicy - almost bitter - with rich and intense flavors of yellow stone fruits, ripe pineapple, some robust white pepper spice and a hint of smoky minerality.

A big and ripe white wine, that is very robust, dry and structured at the same time. It is almost like a big, warm region Chardonnay with a powerful spicy twist and almost paradoxically high acidity. Something very unlike those Grüner Veltliners and Rieslings that dominate the Austrian market, but nothing that pales in comparison. A real curiosity with very high quality and most likely this wine will age really nicely as well. Definitely worth its price at 19,89€.
