  • Oxidized style. Hint of hazelnuts and red currants. Fat on the palate, lingering with a slightly bitter finish.

  • Offline chez Dan Bailey (London): Well structured wine with a nice flinty midpalate. A little too much use of oak for my liking, and suffered somewhat from being tasted alongside the 1990 Chave. Still - a very good wine.

  • Very subdued initially. With some air the palate produced some hints of the fat, succulent wine I was hoping for, or at least a hint of what it probably once was, but the nose still gave nothing. It's over the hill, while remaining an acceptably pleasurable wine. g-
PS. I have since opened 2 more bottles, the second at the Dan Bailey offline. Both of these were excellent examples - full, fat, rich, succulent, spicy and long. The second was in a flight with the 1990 Chave Hermitage, and it could not match that superb wine, it came an honourable second. dg-
