  • Enjoyed this bottle rather more than the last one. Pleasing texture, but of acid spine showing, some interesting flavors are beginning to emerge: caramel, dried flower. Good flavors, not oxidized. I guess the rule of 15 applies.

  • My first Hermitage blanc, so I'm without a good baseline to judge from. Interesting as a novelty, but not gripping as a wine. Reminds me very much of an 03 Armand Auxey-Duresses 1er: a bit syrupy in texture, a hint of acid somewhere in there, but nothing to hold your attention. So far, at its best with a chunk of Parmesan after dinner.

Day 3, beginning to show some intriguing detail and pungency, but only modestly so.

  • Medium intensity nose of roses, peach and a hint of sherry-like oxidation, followed by very intense flavours of stone fruits, citrus, nuts, oak and very slight oxidation, which I am assuming is deliberate (from reading old tasting notes) - if not then it blends perfectly with the other flavours, and should not be considered a fault! The intensity of this full-bodied, medium(+) acid wine builds and builds on the mid palate, and the finish is very, very long. A serious wine for those who like this style. Not to be missed.
