Friends had muled a couple of bottles of this from France a few years back and they served it last night with a perfect complement of onion tart with simple green salad and fresh ricotta gnocchi in a tomato sauce & fresh-grated Parm-Reg. Even though this is 15%abv, the alcohol has mellowed, very little heat at all, overall the wine was rather well-balanced - medium-plus body but quite lithe (the acid has held up). Almost burgundian with a dried sour cherry core and floral bouquet and a bit of earthy mushroom. It is not going to put Beaucastel out of business and it is not trying to be a cult favourite. The blend is apparently synonymous with the plantings mix in the vineyard. No pretense, and... its meant to be a food wine.

Still young, as you would expect, this medium bodied, kirsch filled, traditionally made charmer offers loads of sweet, spicy, black raspberries, earth and black pepper with lush textures. Although OK to drink today, give it another year or two and it should be even better.

At the tasting room in CdP. Crips red fruits on front palate, dark cherry, smoke baking spice. Tannins reasonably soft for such a young wine. Medium/light(er) mouthfeel for a CdP. Elegant and smooth through the finish.
Drinks well now, based on vintage this should put on some weight in the bottle. Good stuff...
