Light red colour with some level of transparency. The nose is archetypal Côtes du Rhône with kirsch and raspberry flavours, complemented and enhanced by dried herbs like rosemary, and peppery garrigue tones. South France literally invades your nostrils. The palate is on the lighter side, but well balanced with herbal and red fruit flavours. Good length. A very pleasurable, racy wine that combines warmth with subtlety. Happily surprised. In a perfect spot now but can see this age nicely for another 3-4 years. Outstanding value at just 7.20€. Should be bought by the case.

Just an incredibly balanced example, ripe fruit, hints of stone, totally unnoticeable alcohol (an admirable thing for CdR these days I think), silky tannins and tremendous drinkability while also having a kind of structured classiness above the basic cotes du rhone label.

an inexpensive CdR that evolves in the glass. starts out a little tight, then opens to red and black fruit, pencil shavings and other complexities you wouldn't expect in a basic CdR. 2012 could be a very good year.

This is the second bottle of the 2012 vintage I've tried. Lancon doesn't disappoint. Is there another $13 bottle to compare with the elegance, the restrained fruit, the simple pleasure of this civilized wine? I haven't found it yet. I'm looking forward to enjoying the rest of the case and acquiring still more. Bravo Family Lancon!
