  • Similar to my previous tasting note, this wine has transformed with time in the bottle, with the red fruits growing darker, deeper, and brooding. Savory and interesting; I find myself torn because I love what age has done to this wine, yet I loved the precociousness of its youth. My favorite Briceland SVD.

  • I opened another bottle of this wine for the sake of science, having ADORED this wine a few years from vintage. At middle age, the wine has grown darker and more complex. I think it's a testament to this vineyard's abiity to age. However, I prefer the precociousness of this wine at an earlier stage in its evolution. It's not better, so much as it is a matter of taste. Still quite enjoyable and my favorite vineyard for Briceland wines.

  • I LOVED this wine after release. With much will power, I saved a bottle to see how it would age. I'm pleased to report that the wine passed the test with flying colors. The fruits seem darker and the wine more savory with additional time sideways. That said, while I am enjoying this glass, I think I preferred this wine in its youth when it was a bit more exuberant. It wasn't necessarily "better" in its youth, but it was more characteristic of what I think of when I think "California".

Pretty cool to taste the metamorphosis. And certainly, there's no rush to drink -- the wine is still perfectly delicious and will easily last a decade or more from vintage.

  • Initial big burst of cherries and earth and herbs. Then it went into hiding for a while and came out of its shell rather slowly. Paired very poorly with a slightly spicy tomato sauce.
After dinner it opened up further and its meaty/savoury characteristics came out. Tannins picked up toward the end. Delicious.

  • open for 1hr + in the cellar prior to consumption. Dark cherry fruit aromas, structured but balanced. ripe fruit but not at all sweet, high acidity. resolved tannins carry this into the finish. Seems to me there is no rush to drink these. I have really enjoyed these wines.
