NOSE: Cherry cigar, bowling alley, coffee cups chiming in the center console. Baked cinnamon. Carob. MOUTH: a curled-down wave-front of pleading tannins. Fine tea. Cherry sham sincerity. Austere. Impressive with its texture and density. Quite alive. If you own bottles of this, consider waiting until 2026 to open them. Do it right, and have braised meat and gooey cheeses on the table. 88+? points. TIME: 30 hours later it’s a vivid example of pleasure gained from decay. Oxygen has ravaged the whole drink, but its toll on these hard, austere tannins is decisively positive. As its pointlessly stoic structure collapses, the last, best music sighs from within: brandied cherries, raw cinnamon, gravel. It’s a shame I didn’t drink this like a normal person might have done, with a juicy roast. 89 points. Now, with a bite of cheese: 90 points. It’s Crown Finish Caves Barnburner rested under a lid on a humid, warm October day. Damn, the wine is alright. I’m tasting deliberate surges of red berry resin. Fascinating. I shook the last drop out of the bottle. 91 points.

Good nose, decent concentration, a little lacking on the finish compared to the 2010. Some more time may soften this up, but I don't think it will ever be one of the truly great.

Same as previous tasting note but decanted this time for an hour prior to consumption. Was a little more giving this time around, but I will wait to drink more of this.

One of the defcon 5 wines from wine guild of cville. Not sure I see what all the fuss is about. This was good, but nothing special. Scaled back, elegant and smooth. Didn't have the power or length I was hoping for. Would buy more at $15/bottle, but not sure I'd pay over $20.

This obviously needs time and will improve for years, but it's lush and giving right now too. If you do open it now, I'd recommend decanting for a few hours, or open it the night before you plan on drinking it.
