This wine was all over the place. Probably four different wines in the bottle over the five hours we drank. Started completely closed with no fruit at all and little else. Then moved to a secondary characteristic wine with a hint of fruit hanging in. Four+ hours in was showing lots of red fruit, spice, and other characteristics more in line with my last bottle. Not sure what to think of this bottle.

Tons of red fruit on the nose and palate—raspberry, cranberry, strawberry, red currant, cassis. Also baking spice, dill, some vanilla. Medium weight. Very well integrated tannin and acid. Still quite a bit of structure. Many good years ahead for this wine.
Reading my prior notes on this wine, this particular bottle seems a departure. But it is simply delicious

From (winery decorated!) magnum. No need to decant this pure Sonoma expression of California cabernet sauvignon. Full-flavored and slightly medium-bodied, almost any positive cabernet descriptor besides tea or any kind of green can be found/imagined in the glass. Black cherry and an overlay of fresh baking spice on nose and palate. Not rich and all the perils that sometimes implies in CA cab, but a full and satisfying finish. Cannot praise enough the Hawkes cabernets!. Also have dmag of same, drinking any format of cabernet from Hawkes in 8-10 yr window is a safe and secure bet.
