Saturday lunch with Eddie (Masseria, DC): Intense iron and crushed stoned driven nose, lean black fruit, a hint of dry cherry, licorice, spearmint, tar, cinnamon and earth. Very focused, linear and precise palate, very finely layered subtle black fruit, silky and polished, good acidity, nicely integrated tannins and a long silky black fruit and licorice driven finish with spearmint at the end. This is all about perfect precision and iron driven mineral.

French and Italian wine gathering (The Grill Room at Rosewood DC): Tom generously brought this wine in 2014 and I thought it was the most stony/mineral nose of my life. Tom is incredibly generous to bring another bottle and I can reaffirm at this is the most mineral driven wine of my life. For my palate, the Rionda Riserva is about the incredible fruit density and sweetness where this is all about the perfect precision and mineral. The nose displays much cooler elements, pine needle, spearmint, limestone and spicy spices. Very much sweet dry red fruit driven. The palate displays perfect precision and tension. With air, the fruit gets rounder and sweeter. Once again, this is incredibly young. This is exceptional but once again, I prefer the Rionda by a hair.

Tørkede blomster, kirsebær , parfymert, hint av neglelakkfjerner (ikke sjenerende). Vanvittig konsentrasjon - Den sparker helt vilt i munnhulen. En lengde som er vanskelig å matche uansett vin. Fortsatt ganske voldsomme tanniner til en 37 åring å være. Mange gode viner hadde smakt fjellbekk ved siden av denne. Dette er ingen kosedrikk, men en høyst imponerende vin. Drøy sak. 👊

White Truffle Dinner – 78 Giacosas riservas, 88 Gentaz, 89 & 90 Sandrone, 00 CdM and etc. (Al Tiramisu - Washington DC): Perhaps one of the most stony/mineral nose of my life, a hint of mint, pine needle, dry red and black cherries, licorice, tree bark, perfume, roasted chestnut, iron, tar, spicy spices and earth. Perfectly harmonious palate, singular, impressive tension and precision, strong mineral/iron presence and still noticeable tannins. I prefer the 78 Rionda Riserva slightly for the sweetness and roundness. Very intellectual wine.
