Community Tasting Notes (9) Avg Score: 91.1 points

  • Lovely, lighter style, old world (nth rhone) style wine. Taking a long time to open up, but showing fresh red and black berry aromas, beautiful, but subtle, spice inc black pepper, and fresh and dried flowers. Teeth coating powdery tannins, refreshing acidity, long, clean, floral finish.

  • Cool and dark red fruit aromas. Jam tendencies and lacks the firmness and structure of a Rhône Syrah at the same price. A bit dissapointing. Mean 2011 was better.

  • Definitely going for a northern-rhone style, mostly successfully -- a far cry from the normal huge (and in my view undrinkable) Shiraz style. Leather, game, dark fruits, a bit of brett. I would have scored 1-2 points higher but there was a slightly weird flavor in the background that I found offputting -- the brett bordering on something slightly unclean or not integrated. I suspect it will age well on the tannins.

  • This is serious stuff. Love the savoury notes. Feels almost like a cool-climate Syrah. Focused and engaging.

  • The wine is clear and bright with a deep ruby colour.

The nose is clean and developing, showing medium+ intensity aromas of black pepper, red plums, red cherries, cedar and hints of clove.

It is dry in the mouth with a medium+ nervy acidity. It has firm velvety tannins and a medium+ well-integrated alcohol. It has a full body and pronounced intensity juicy flavours. The finish is long.

It is a very good quality wine with a great balance between alcohol and acidity, supported by the fruit concentration. It also has a lingering finish and it shows some complexity provided by spicy notes and oak ageing, however it's not complex enough to be considered outstanding.
