Community Tasting Notes (8) Avg Score: 93.2 points

  • The wine was decanted off its sediment and aired for 30 minutes before being returned to the bottle for tasting.

Eye: Dark red center with a medium red rim. The wine is mostly translucent and shows light bricking.

Nose: Cherry pie, chocolate, cigar box. Caramel, strawberries, cassis, and vanilla. Slightly vinous/boozy.

Palate: Beautiful rounded velvet tannins. Bright and fresh acidity. Cherry, chocolate, caramel, strawberries.

Finish: Soy and black tea. Lingering bright red fruit and cacao.

Overall: Wow. This is the single most impressive Cali cab I’ve ever had.

  • Beautiful CS deep plum color in the glass. Lively, compelling nose with lots of greens--olives, chard. A big mouthful of wine--typical CS dark fruit, but with absolutely no hint of "sweetness." As the wine passes back, I get the slightest hints of things like licorice, vanilla, charcoal, The latter may be derived from still sturdy drying tannin. Very long, pleasing finish. Winner, winner.

  • Pours a deep, slightly translucent purple with a very slightly faded rim. No bricking yet. Decanted for sediment and gave it about 20 minutes of airtime. Really doesn’t take long to open up. Bright fresh blackberries and cassis aromas paired with some graphite, mossy earth, and cedar shavings. This wine is at a great balance of primary and tertiary aromas.

Medium body with medium acidity. Tannins are present but take a back seat to other flavors and textures. Brambly fruit, wet forest, black cherry, plum, blueberry, cedar. This is still fruit- forward but the tertiaries are creeping in.

This is in an incredible spot right now. 2011 was a rough year basically everywhere but you’d never know it drinking this wine. Quite possibly the best Arnot-Roberts wines I’ve had to date. Will probably continue to evolve over the next 5 or so years but I don’t see any reason to wait.

  • Generous winding aromas of blackberries, violets, graphite, cigar box, and rich loam. Clear sweet juice on the palate with a lovely aromatic acid frame and salty echoing tannic finish. Coherent progression from nose to palate, piquant, juicy, soft and rich, beautiful balance of sweet and salt, tart and bitter. Excellent with brats.

  • In a great spot. Much more generous and round than the year or alcoholic content would imply. Beautiful moss, old dried herbs, pencil and plum.
