When I opened this wine, the cork kind of blew out as if pressurized and wine went everywhere. Hmm. We poured it because, well, wine is an adventure, and WOW. We weren't disappointed. This wine was delicious. The nose was fresh with some tahitian vanilla at first. As it warmed in the glass, the nose continued to offer up citrus and just a real brightness. The wine didn't disappoint at the taste level either. Even after 16 years, while mellowed, it stood the test of time. bright citrus flavor for me, smooth mid palate, like silk sliding on vanilla and coconut and hint of the tropics. Mango and kind like a little lychee fruit. Well crafted. Still freakin good sultry structure. My hat is off to the winemaker, wherever he or she may be. This wine complimented beautifully a dinner of hazelnut crusted paillard chicken breast with a pan sauce made with 2 day old 2006 Argyle Champagne, dijon mustard, freshly cooked corn, fresh tarragon, basil and chives, a few capers, new garlic and just enough cream to bring it together. Served on a bed of arugula and frisee wilted from the heat, and a very yummy salad. The wine not only elevated the meal into a wonderful surprise it delighted my dinner companion who is not wild about white wine.

The cork on this bottle was really saturated and pushed into the bottle when I went to uncork it. The wine was delicious. Excellent old chardonnay with a little oak, great acidity and rich mouthfeel. Yummy!
