Community Tasting Notes (3) Avg Score: 90.5 points

  • Decanted 90 minutes ahead off of some sediment. Very deep garnet color, not showing any rust or bricking. Nice nose, showing floral and roasted meat aromas along with a strong herbal note. Full bodied on the palate, with black fruits in a firm structure. Very firm in fact, despite 5 years in bottle. This wine could still use more time.

  • California Syrah: What is it, exactly? This wine is a fairly "classic" version, if such could exist. Decanted 1 hr. ahead. Ultra-deep garnet color. Nice but somewhat closed nose of violets, black fruits, spice tones; it opened up nicely later to include black pepper and Worcestershire sauce aromas. Full-bodied and rich on the palate, but with firm acidity that keeps it in place; firmness leads here in a good structure. Black cherry flavors with licorice overtones. The finish is long, with drying hints of iron filings, graphite, and moderate tannins. Will be better with a few more years in bottle.
